Valve lightning arresters

Valve lightning arresters consist of three main parts: a spark gap, a variable resistance resistor and a porcelain housing. At the appropriate value of the voltage between the wire and the ground, a spark gap occurs and the wire is connected to the ground through a non-linear resistor. The resistance of the resistor depends on the value of the applied voltage, at high voltage it is small, and at low voltage - large. Thanks to the lightning arrester, the overvoltage wave is "discharged" to the ground without interruption in energy supply.
