USB / power sockets 5-24V

This category of products available in our e-shop includes USB sockets. This is a modern type of contacts that allow direct charging of devices using this connector, without the need to have and use dedicated chargers or adapters. This solution has many advantages. First of all, USB sockets are extremely handy and convenient.

USB ports – port characteristics

USB (from the English Universal Serial Bus), i.e. a universal serial bus, is a computer communication connector that replaced over 20 years ago the already obsolete serial and parallel ports. In the past, in order to connect an external device to a computer, it was necessary to turn off the operating system, connect the hardware, turn on the PC and perform manual installation. USB has significantly shortened this process. Today, thanks to this type of connectors, you can connect and disconnect a selected external device from your computer literally at any time. Modern operating systems deal with the detection of connected hardware and its installation by themselves.

The USB connector is not only used to connect multimedia devices to the computer, however. With its help, you can also transfer data between devices. In addition, cables terminated with this connector are used to transfer energy, i.e. to charge devices equipped with internal batteries.

Why use USB sockets?

USB sockets are the answer of the electrical equipment market to the current needs of customers. Contacts of this type allow you to immediately connect the selected mobile device to the mains and easily charge its internal batteries. Importantly – this is done without the use of a dedicated charger or adapter. It is enough to obtain only the appropriate cable, terminated with plugs that match the type of socket on the one hand, and the port pre-installed in the device on the other.

Types of USB sockets

The selection of the cable to be connected to the USB port is crucial. There are several types of contacts of this type, which differ from each other in the applied USB technology standard.

The most common are sockets with a type A port. These are popular plugs with a characteristic, rectangular and flat shape. Devices of almost any type can be connected to such contacts. At the same time, it is worth being aware that this is a standard that is slowly starting to be replaced by more modern solutions. We are talking about microUSB sockets (type A and B) or slightly less popular miniUSB sockets (also type A and B). As their names indicate – these are smaller plugs, and therefore much more convenient to use. All of the above are included in the USB 1.0-2.0 standards.

The most modern are the USB type C sockets that fit in the 3.0 standard. They resemble microUSB in size, but in their case the pins are arranged symmetrically on the longer sides inside the plug. This means that the cable can be installed in the port in any way. It does not matter which side of the plug is inserted into the socket. This is not possible with older standards. In Type A plugs of the 2.0 standard, the pins are located on one side only. The cable must therefore be placed in the port in the correct way. In turn, in the case of microUSB or miniUSB 2.0, the pins are located in the middle of the plug, and the ends of the cables have a characteristic shape, which forces the connector to be correctly placed in the socket in only one possible way.

Where can USB sockets be installed?

Until recently, USB sockets were mainly installed in public places. They can be found, for example, in shopping malls. Later, they also began to appear in public transport or, for example, in cinemas. This equipment has been successfully installed in offices for some time. This applies to both large corporations and small startups.

There is also nothing to prevent USB sockets from being installed in houses and flats. This is an increasingly common solution. Contacts of this type, although adapted to a narrow group of plugs, are very handy. In addition, compared to traditional sockets, they can be considered less conspicuous. Therefore, it is easier to integrate them into the interior design.

USB sockets are mounted primarily in the walls. However, models adapted for installation in countertops are becoming more and more popular. It is this type of equipment that works best in offices. Many people decide to install USB sockets also on kitchen islands. Thanks to this, they can use, for example, a smartphone connected to charging while cooking or cleaning.
