The tape is a steel tape with a flattened rectangular cross-section (flat bar), which protects the installations against corrosion. Most often used in electrical networks as grounding and in lightning protection systems. It is also used as a main equipotential bonding conductor, a protective conductor or as a main equipotential bar. Formerly also used as lintel reinforcement. The tape is sold in the form of coiled coils. The thickness is in the range of 1-5mm, and the width is 20-80mm. Often the hoop iron is covered with an additional layer of zinc, making it more resistant to damage.
