HDMI / VGA sockets

This product category includes HDMI sockets. This is a special type of equipment installed (depending on the needs) in devices, but also in walls, floor boxes, columns, etc. These sockets enable easy and quick connection of audio and video receivers with the source of signal emission.

HDMI ports are a ubiquitous standard. They are installed in virtually every modern equipment that is able to receive audio and video signals. The great popularity of this solution meant that similar mechanisms adapted for installation in selected planes, e.g. in walls, went on sale. Such HDMI sockets allow for effective masking of cabling. It is a practical and very aesthetic solution. This equipment is often installed not only in houses and flats, but also in office spaces. HDMI sockets allow you to conveniently connect portable computers or other mobile devices directly to a functioning multimedia system, which in turn definitely facilitates, for example, screen sharing or projection of a previously prepared presentation.

The HDMI sockets are very convenient to use. In the case of wall models, it is worth remembering that the assembly involves carrying out renovation works. This equipment is best installed at the stage of finishing the apartment or house. If the nests are to be located in an inhabited or already used space, you should be prepared for the fact that it will be necessary to forge the walls.

HDMI – standard characteristics

HDMI (from High Definition Multimedia Interface) is aninterface used to transmit digital, uncompressed audio and video signals. It was introduced in 2000, and three years later it was already widely used in various types of multimedia devices. HDMI allows you to connect any standard audio/video devices – DVD/Blu-Ray players, game consoles, TV sets, monitors and many more. This standard currently ensures the best quality of sound and image transmission. The HDMI operating scheme is based on TMDS technology, which in turn is based on an advanced coding algorithm. Before the receiver displays the image, the signal is verified and corrected if necessary. Any disturbances or noise are limited to a minimum. If the cable and inputs in the sockets are operational, no blemishes can appear in the image. If there are any defects, the image should not be displayed at all.

HDMI replaced the previously used SCART standard, which was commonly referred to as the Euroconnector. This type of connection was known to be highly susceptible to all kinds of interference. With the technological development, the Euroconnector has ceased to be simply an efficient method of signal transmission. The analog connection had to be replaced by a digital standard sooner or later.

Structure of the HDMI cable

HDMI cables are made of oxygen-free copper. In addition, on sale you can find copies with the addition of steel, aluminum, silver or gold. In fact, each of these cables should, in theory, provide the same quality of signal transmission. The length of the cable matters more. The longer it is, the greater the risk of possible disruptions.

The HDMI standard has gone through several versions. The latest has been marked with the symbol 2.1. It provides a maximum resolution of the connector 7680×4320p120, support for 4K resolution, image compression, improved audio return channel or dynamic HDR. Importantly - the HDMI version refers to the device to which we plug the cable (specifically its transmitters), not to the cable itself. The latter can be divided as follows:

  • HDMI Cable standard (supports 720p and 1080i),
  • HDMI Cable with Ethernet standard (supports 720p, 1080i and Ethernet connections),
  • High Speed HDMI Cable (supports 720p, 1080i, 1080p, 4K@30Hz, 3D, Deep Color),
  • High Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet (supports 720p, 1080i, 1080p, 4K@30Hz, 3D, Deep Color, Ethernet and eARC),
  • Premium High Speed HDMI Cable (4K@60Hz Support, BT.2020 Color Space, 4:4:4 Sampling, HDR),
  • Premium High Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet (above + Ethernet),
  • Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable (supports 4K, 5K, 8K, 10K @120Hz, Ethernet).

Advantages of HDMI

The biggest advantage of the HDMI standard is the lossless reception and transfer of image and sound. When using the Euroconnector, this was not possible, which ultimately affected the quality of the already processed signal. It is also an extremely easy-to-use technology. Audio and video transmission requires only one cable. The interface is also often referred to as intelligent, due to the two-way communication between the image source and the receiver. This allows for the use of new functionalities (e.g. automatic adjustment of the image format to the technological capabilities of the display). HDMI is also a solution of the future, which will probably support multimedia devices for at least a few or more years.
