Extension cords

Professional electric extension cords

The extension cord is an accessory that cannot be missing at home, garage or workshop. It is useful basically wherever the cable of a portable electrical device is too short to reach the nearest socket. In addition, the extension cord works well in situations where the number of power sockets in a given room turns out to be insufficient (e.g. in the countertop). However, this is not the only purpose of this type of equipment. The extension cord is an essential building or garden element. It can also be used as a power supply for external lamps.

An extension cord (or an extension cable or even an extension to the socket) is nothing more than a section of an electric wire used to increase the connection range between the selected device and the socket.

Basic types of extension cords

There are at least several types of such equipment on the market. The most common are ordinary household extension cords, adapted to support everyday devices. These are the simplest extension cables to which, for example, RTV and household appliances are connected. They are also often used in small offices, where there is a need to connect at least several devices to the network, such as computers, photocopiers, printers, etc. Garden models are another type of extension cord. They are ideal for connecting to them e.g. an electric lawn mower. Garden and construction extension cords are usually made of plastic with a characteristic orange color. This is to make it easy to see the implement on the grass or ground. Compared to household copies, they usually support devices with higher power. In addition, due to the fact that they are adapted for use outside the building, they meet other safety standards and offer a much greater range of cable connection. Depending on your needs, we can offer extension cords (including garden ones) with a length of 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 20, 23, 30, 40, 50 or even 100 m.

In stores you can also find another type of garden extension cords, the so-called drum models. These are long extension cables, characterized by high resistance to adverse weather conditions, dust, etc. They are often used in professional workshops and construction sites. The name of reel extensions comes from the design of the attachment. The extension cable winds up on a special spool placed on a stand.

Extension cords and splitters

It is also worth mentioning a derivative product of a traditional extension cord, i.e. an electrical splitter, commonly called “a thief”. It is a simple device that allows you to connect more plugs of electrical devices to one socket. Depending on the needs, we can distinguish splitters with two, three or even four additional inputs. The very name of such splitters comes from the period when charges for electricity consumption were not based on the meter reading, but on the number of sockets in the household.

Another special type of extension cord are surge protectors. At first glance, they do not differ much from traditional extension cables. Like them, they are primarily used to increase the range of the cable connection of a given device. In addition, they are equipped with a fuse and a surge protector in the form of a varistor. This type of strips are perfect for connecting devices that are connected directly to the network and are extremely vulnerable to damage, e.g. during a sudden power failure or strong lightning discharges. We are talking about computers, laptops or high-end RTV equipment. Such an extension to the socket will work in the living room or office, where we need to connect all devices at the desk.

How to choose an extension cord?

When choosing the right extension cord, it is worth paying attention to several elements. First of all, it is necessary to check how long the cable should be so that it can easily connect the device to the socket. It is forbidden to lead to a situation in which any cables are tense, as this can easily lead to unnecessary failure.

In addition, before buying, it is good to count exactly how many devices you plan to connect to the extension cord. There are models on the market that allow you to attach one, two, three and even more plugs. It is also mandatory to check the shape of the plugs of individual equipment. It happens that some extension cords allow you to connect only those with flat ends.

The place where the extension cord is used is also important. At home, the simplest models that are available for sale for even a few or a dozen zlotys will work. However, for works carried out outside the building or in rooms exposed to moisture or all sorts of dust, it is better to opt for more advanced and professional garden or drum extension cords. It is also worth remembering that the extension cord should be handy. For home, it is therefore good to choose a model that can be easily hidden, or at least one that will not be too conspicuous. For safety reasons, it is also recommended to use extension cords with factory-installed grounding. A power strip called ”a thief” is the most frequently chosen model – it is affordable, practical, convenient and easy to use, and has additional features such as surge protection. In addition, the offer includes electrical extension cords with grounding, in various colors, e.g. white or black, which will allow you to adjust the model to the selected room as much as possible.

Surge protector vs surge protector – what are the differences?

A surge strip comes standard with several outlets and a long cord terminated with a plug, but there is no built-in protection against surges or other mains disturbances. In turn, the surge protector has additional protection, such as special protection circuits and systems that prevent overvoltages in the electrical network. When the voltage in the network exceeds the safe level, the surge protector automatically disconnects the power supply, protecting the connected devices from damage.

Surge protectors are more technologically advanced than ordinary power strips, which makes them more effective in protecting electrical devices. They can also offer additional features, such as filtering noise and electromagnetic interference, which contributes to improving power quality.

Branded extension cords in the el12.pl offer

The offer of the el12.pl online store includes several types of extension cords. Our extensive offer includes models from reputable manufacturers of this type of equipment. We sell extension cords from companies such as CET, Elgotech, Elektro-Plast Opatówek, Elektrokabel Turek, Foxytech, Kanlux, Led-Pol, Legrand, Merten, Polam-Nakło, Orno-Polska, Ospel, Pawbol, PCE, Schneider Electric, SEZ, Tehalit, Viplast and Wago Elwag. Among the available models there are those both with and without this protective element. In addition, we offer extension cords with earthing Schuko type, characterized by two plates located on two sides (top and bottom) of the plug hole, and Uni-Schuko.

In the el12.pl store, you can order extension cords with a length of 1.5-100 meters. Individual models are also characterized by other parameters of the rated current. In this regard, the following models of extension cords have been included in the offer:

  • 2.5A,
  • 7.5A,
  • 10A,
  • 16A,
  • 25A,
  • 32A

In addition, we offer single-phase and three-phase extension cords. Among the former, there are models with a different number of sockets. Particular attention should be paid to extension cords equipped with a special switch. This solution allows you to disconnect a particular device (or several devices) from the mains without having to pull the plug from the wall socket or from the socket of the extension cord itself. It is worth mentioning that among the available single-phase extension cords, we have products in various colors: white, black, red, blue, orange, silver, grey, green and yellow. This makes it easier to mask the extension cable in a given room. On the other hand, among the three-phase extension cords, all kinds of drum models predominate, allowing you to connect three to four plugs to them.

Accessories for extension cords

Accessories for extension cords are also a separate category of products. Among them were i.a. connection cables, sockets (single, double, triple, quadruple, etc.), splitters, heating caps, drum reels (the skeleton itself), portable plugs, extension cord mounting flanges, office blocks, power cassettes, photoelectric sensors, phase change reducers, lids of table sockets, garden sockets and many others. This type of equipment allows, among other things, to repair damaged extension cords without having to buy new ones.
