Using rechargeable batteries solves this problem – if they run out, just connect them to charge for a certain period of time. Once purchased batteries and charger can last for at least several years. In general, it is therefore much more profitable than buying another pack of batteries once a month. It is also worth mentioning about ecological considerations. Alkaline cells are difficult to dispose of – after use, they must not be thrown into the garbage can. They should be placed in specially designed containers, which can be found, for example, in electronics stores. The very manufacture of batteries has a detrimental effect on the environment. Limiting the use of such energy sources and replacing them with reusable batteries is much more beneficial for the world around us.

Of course, rechargeable energy carriers have their drawbacks. Over time, their capacity decreases, even if they have not been excessively exploited. With each subsequent filling, their efficiency also decreases. However, they still remain a much more economical and convenient solution than classic batteries used to power, for example, home clocks, TV remote controls, controllers for consoles or toys.

How to choose battery chargers?

People who decide on batteries pay attention primarily to their capacity, charging time and type. In the case of the last criterion, nickel-cadmium (NiCd), nickel-tin (NiZn), NiMH (nickel-metal-hydrogen) non-LSD and NiMH LSD models can be distinguished. The latter seem to be the most efficient. The abbreviation LSD stands for Low Self Discharge, which can be translated as a low self-discharge rate. These types of batteries hold the accumulated energy longer when they are not physically used. These are also the most expensive models, but they will work well in the case of equipment that we use extremely often. NiCd batteries are now rare and hard to come by. NiZn cells, on the other hand, are best suited for devices requiring a higher output voltage. They are also the most environmentally friendly models.

When buying batteries, it is worth choosing the right charger for them right away. The parameters of this equipment are also of great importance for the use of reusable cells. Using the wrong charging base can significantly shorten battery life. The most common mistake made by people choosing chargers is to focus only on the charging speed parameter. A short time to fill the battery with energy does not mean that the device works efficiently and does not destroy the cells. It is worth verifying whether a given charger is equipped with a special microprocessor system that allows monitoring of current and voltage and adjusting these values depending on the type of batteries operated.

The cheapest models of chargers usually allow you to fill at least several pieces of this type of energy sources at the same time. Ideally, the chargers should be powered by 100-230V mains voltage. Thanks to this, they can be used probably in every possible place with access to electricity. Of course, chargers for batteries of various sizes are available for sale, but the most common are devices designed for AA and AAA cells. Smart models are also becoming more and more common, which, in addition to monitoring the voltage and charging time, measure the temperature. State-of-the-art chargers automatically switch off when one of the factory-programmed limits is exceeded.
