Aggregates are one of the types of devices that store or produce and deliver electricity to power other units. They are especially useful when there are power outages, e.g. as a result of a failure. Then, with their help, you can power even those devices and machines that need a huge amount of energy to function properly. Generators are therefore a kind of protection and are usually treated as an emergency power source. For this reason, they are most often used in places that are extremely exposed to network overload or the occurrence of various types of electrical faults. They can be found in single-family houses, workshops or production plants, halls, warehouses, etc. However, this is not the only function of aggregators. These devices are often independently responsible for the supply of energy in places where you cannot count on access to electricity, e.g. in garages, caravans, gazebos, etc.
The essential elements of a power generator (also called a generator) are an internal combustion engine (powered by gasoline, diesel oil, natural gas, methane or LPG) and a generator that converts the movement of the pistons into electricity. Then, the electricity is transferred to a selected part of the power grid or, directly, to a specific device.
All these elements are inside a metal structure, the dimensions of which are mainly dependent on the power of the device. The genset generator can produce single-phase current with nominal parameters of 230 V and 50 Hz or three-phase current with parameters of 3x400 V and 50 Hz.
Petrol generators are available with two-stroke and four-stroke engines. The latter are more efficient, but usually cost more. Diesel engines are cheaper to operate because they burn less fuel than gasoline ones. Aggregators powered by liquefied petroleum gas (i.e. LPG) burn the most, which is also the cheapest fuel currently. Aggregates are selected so that they can supply all or only selected devices in a given part of the network. Therefore, their parameters should always be assessed in the context of the needs of specific users. However, the choice always starts with determining the required voltage and total power of the devices in the system. On this basis, the basic technical parameters of the generator are selected.
Generators are divided not only by the type of fuel that drives the engine installed in the machine. These devices can be additionally categorized by the mode of operation. Standby generators are typically emergency equipment, designed to temporarily replace the primary source of energy. Such generators are characterized by a variable load and no possibility of overloading. Their complete opposite are prime type machines, which are designed to constantly power a given network. They have unlimited run time and can be overloaded by 10% for one hour for every twelve hours of operation.
In addition, power generators are divided according to their foundation. Classic stationary machines are permanently connected to the network operated in a given facility. They are often equipped with an automatic switching system, i.e. SZR Such equipment is usually placed outside the building, although it happens (mainly with generators of smaller dimensions) that they are inside the building. In general, however, maneuvering them is a big problem. That's why there are also portable generators. Their housing is located on a homologated chassis, which makes it easier to transport the machine, e.g. to various rooms.
When choosing a generator, you need to pay attention not only to its power, engine type, efficiency and dimensions. Another important aspect is the noise level of the machine. Some models generate a lot of noise, which can adversely affect, for example, our well-being. Silent generators have a high-quality soundproof casing, are equipped with a special anti-vibration system and silencers. The loudness of the aggregator's work should be of particular interest to us, if the machine is to be responsible for providing electricity, even on a recreational plot, where you intend to rest.
Customers also attach great importance to the price of the unit. This depends primarily on its power. The cheapest models can be purchased for around PLN 500, but it must be remembered that these are low-performance devices, intended for very occasional use. For about PLN 1,000, you can already buy a slightly better power generator with AVR voltage regulation, single phase and a four-stroke petrol engine. Higher quality equipment, depending on the technical parameters, costs up to PLN 4,000. They usually show soundproofing, low fuel consumption and voltage stabilization. It is definitely not worth choosing a generator only on the basis of savings. By default, this device is to serve us for at least a few years. So by choosing a slightly more expensive, but at the same time more efficient and more durable solutions, you can save a lot of money in the end.
