Duct fans

This category of products includes duct fans, i.e. simple-construction accessories supporting the process of air exchange in a given room. It is one of the most popular ventilation solutions used both in residential buildings and in offices, halls and warehouses. It is appreciated not only because of its versatility, but also because of its very simple assembly and effectiveness.

A duct fan, sometimes also referred to as a tubular fan, is used primarily where standard gravitational ventilation proves to be insufficient. This equipment is designed to support the traditional method of air exchange in the room using ventilation ducts (hence the name of the product). Such a fan effectively removes used air from the inside of the facility. With its help, you can also get rid of moisture and unpleasant odors from the room.

Construction of duct fans

The construction of a tubular fan consists of several elements. The center of the device is a motor with a rotating housing. The latter is located in two ball bearings. The motor shaft is connected to it. Inside the rotating housing is usually placed the so-called armament stand. In it, the bearings are set, and the rotor (rotor) is balanced on the outer diameter of the rotating housing. In the past, fans were built in a slightly different way. The main difference was that it was the rotor that was placed inside the casing. Swap the position of the rotor and stator to condense the size of the fixtures. What's more, with such a design, it is easier to cool the motor with voltage regulation of its rotation. An element necessary for the proper operation of the tubular fan is also a properly constructed duct to which the device is directly connected.

Types of duct fans

There are several types of duct fans. The basic classification is based on the type and construction of the impeller. In this way, axial, centrifugal and mixed-flow fans can be distinguished. The first mentioned group of products is intended for pumping low-pressure air with a short path to travel from the inside to the outside of the building. These types of fans are primarily suitable for wall or ceiling mounting. In the gas transport process, the kinetic component plays the most important role in this case. The specific construction of the impeller directly translates into high air flow at the expense of lower compression.

In some situations, when a traditional axial fan turns out to be inefficient, an alternative solution is used in the form of a contra-rotating axial fan. Its characteristic element is a rotor composed of two elements rotating in opposite directions. This design allows for a higher static pressure ratio, which ultimately translates into greater efficiency of the attachment.

Centrifugal fans, on the other hand, are constructed in such a way that the axis of rotation of the impeller is perpendicular to the flow direction of the forced air stream. Thanks to this, this group of products achieves a much higher air pressure compared to the previously described axial fans. Radial models are suitable for use in long, branched, often very complex ventilation systems. Due to the greater efficiency, this type of fan is usually much more expensive than the simpler and less efficient axial fans.

Mixed flow fans are a kind of hybrid of both solutions. They combine the efficiency of radial models with a relatively simple design of axial fans. Their characteristic feature is very quiet operation. Therefore, they are ideal for use in rooms where the noise level should be as low as possible (e.g. in a library).

Duct fans can also be divided by function. In this way, for example, flow models (otherwise known as through) and supply-exhaust models are distinguished. The first group includes classic pieces, very often used in single-family houses or other residential buildings. They are mainly used to remove used air from inside. More advanced are the supply and exhaust fans, which will not only remove the air from the room, but also provide fresh gas deposits inside.

A special type of fans are explosion-proof models. They are used in spaces extremely exposed to various types of explosions. They facilitate the removal of harmful gases or combustible vapors from the room.

Advantages of duct fans

Duct fans have at least a few advantages. First of all, they are universal devices that can be installed in virtually any room, regardless of its purpose. A large selection of individual models and types of attachments allows you to choose a fully efficient copy. Standard duct fans can be easily connected with other devices responsible for exhausting used air or steam, e.g. with kitchen hoods. It is worth noting that modern tubular fans work quietly and do not affect the comfort of household members. The devices are available in various colors, which allows you to match the interior design. So it's easy to disguise them so they don't stand out.

Duct fans – what to pay attention to before buying?

When choosing a duct fan, you should pay attention primarily to its intended use. If the device will have to deal with the removal of a large amount of air, it is worth opting for more technically advanced solutions, e.g. counter-rotating models. Before buying, it is also recommended to carefully check the method of mounting the accessories and the diameter of the ventilation duct. This type of information should always be on the product card and on its packaging.
