This category of products includes garden sockets, i.e. special connectors that are part of the electrical installation, which are suitable for use outside buildings. Contrary to their name, these contacts can be installed not only in the garden, but also, for example, on gazebos, balconies, porches, driveways, etc.
Garden sockets, similarly to connectors adapted for installation inside buildings, enable the connection of individual devices to the electrical installation. This, of course, is to provide these devices with power, without which they could not function. We are talking about electric mowers, all power tools, as well as lamps (both functional and decorative). Garden sockets are part of the plug connector.
Garden sockets, compared to classic electrical contacts, are distinguished by a much higher degree of IP protection (minimum IP44). This is to protect the equipment from rapid destruction under the influence of unfavorable weather conditions. Products of this type must be resistant to moisture, rain, frost, heat or strong winds. A sufficiently high degree of protection is also to ensure the stability of the connection of the equipment to the electrical network. Any defect can lead to device failure or to dangerous overvoltages, which in extreme cases end in failure of the entire installation and fire.
Garden sockets can be divided primarily by the type of supported plugs. In this respect, the market is dominated by models supporting CEE 7/17 or CEE 7/16 plugs. This is a special type of sockets, not included in the classic CEE standard, which do not have a protective earth. They are primarily used to connect devices made in protection class II – mainly gardening tools adapted to work outside.
In addition, more traditional types of garden sockets can be distinguished, e.g. type E (CEE 7/5 - very similar to type C shown above, but they have an additional protection in the form of a grounding pin. For this reason, these sockets are considered safer and they are gradually replacing models not equipped with this element). Less specialized garden sockets have become more and more popular in recent years. They make it possible to connect many devices to the network, which until recently were used only inside buildings, e.g. chargers for telephones or laptops. In addition, many recreational garden equipment, such as electric grills, are equipped with classic plugs.
When it comes to the construction of garden sockets, there are models available in stores for surface-mounted installation outside the building. Such contacts are usually marked with the degree of protection IP55. Their characteristic element is special protective flaps. In this respect, they largely resemble internal electrical sockets adapted for installation in the bathroom.
It often happens that a connection to the electricity network is needed far away from a fixed object. In order for the socket to be, for example, in the middle of the property, special extension cords are used. These can be in the form of a classic strip or the so-called. drum. Such contacts often allow you to connect even several devices at the same time. Recently, there are also special garden sockets hidden in decorative casings resembling, for example, stone. This solution allows you to cleverly mask the contacts in the garden, and the entire installation does not disfigure carefully designed properties.
Power poles are also a real hit in recent years. These are nothing more than small size loudspeakers equipped with plug sockets. Such equipment is permanently mounted outside the building, away from its walls. Thanks to this, you can use various equipment on the entire surface of the property, without using inconvenient extension cords. Power poles look like garden lamps. Modern models are made in a very attractive way, do not disfigure the space and blend in perfectly with the garden. The column is usually encased in stainless steel. The entire structure is characterized by exceptional tightness, which makes the risk of damage to the equipment really minimal.
New are also garden sockets in the form of power poles equipped with timers. Such solutions allow you to power the connected equipment at predetermined times. This makes it easier to manage individual devices that are not equipped with their own programming and planning systems. Thanks to garden sockets of this type, you can conveniently use, for example, the old type of sprinklers.
